|
Welcome... Oaksey is a friendly village with a great community spirit which everyone is anxious to preserve in the future. We are a fortunate village with our own church, shop/post office, pub, village hall and a thriving Primary school. We have playing fields in the centre of the village and a 9-hole golf course and leisure park at the edge. Country walks and footpaths give ample opportunity for relaxation whilst, a few miles distant, is the Cotswold Water Park, the centre for many types of aquatic activity, wild life conservation and fishing. there are also various social , leisure and fund raising activities in the village providing opportunities for residents to meet and enjoy each others company. Police Message Can you help the Police with information? Over the
evening/night of Friday 13/Saturday 14 somebody stole hay bales and set light

side of the woods. Village Open Meeting 17th May - 7pm
All of the Parish Council look forward to seeing you on the evening of 17th May when, as last year, we will report on the things we have been grappling with last year.
Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
And as if that wasn’t excitement enough, you will see elsewhere in the News a full and final rundown of the –now - wide range of events around the Diamond Jubilee. These are organised for the entire village and have involved many in the village. There is room for 53 people on the coach trip to London on Sunday 3rd– I think that will be an unforgettable outing, so let Mike Martin know soon that you can make it. The famous Fete and the Street Party are combined on the Tuesday 5th – we are all just going to ‘bring our lunch’, whatever you have, although I suspect, knowing what people are like in Oaksey, there will be a chance to eat and drink the lunch next to you too! There are over 500 people in the village – we would be sorry if anyone had lunch on their own that day. The theme is ‘red, white and blue’ – wear either a little bit of those or come in fancy dress. We’ll provide one BIG table, plates, cutlery, party hats etc.
School News
The end of term saw a win for our Year 5 & 6 football team at a Lea and Garsdon cluster competition, a netball competition with some keen playing but only one win and a first outing for a Year 3 & 4 mixed football team. We are very grateful to our parents for their help in transporting children to these competitions and also to Jonathan Morse for helping coach the older boy’s football team.
The Johns Trophy
This is an annual Award to an individual who has made a significant contribution to our Village. Past winners include the Johns family, Nellie Bennett, Val Price, Lindsey Weatherley, Caroline Buckland, Lady Oaksey, Marianne Taylor-Seymour and Miriam Nicholls. The 2012 winner will be awarded at the Fete. The winner will be selected by past recipients. If you would like to make a nomination please contact Fred Price
Bark in the Water
In April next year, I will be undertaking a challenging charity 42 mile Desert Trek in Jordan from the Dead Sea to Petra. This is being organised by Dream Challenges as part of an overall Britain V Cancer campaign.
Police News
Back in March a local resident in Hankerton received an unsolicited delivery addressed to them of high value photographic equipment. Shortly after a phone call was received from a foreign sounding male stating that the goods had been delivered to the right name but wrong address and that a courier would arrive later to collect. Luckily the resident became suspicious and made urgent enquiries to discover that this was indeed a SCAM and that the lax security of the company which had sent the delivery had allowed a false account to be set up in the resident’s name. The resident informed Police and returned the delivery to the Post Office and when the foreign sounding male called again this information was enough to ensure the resident is unlikely to be troubled again. Had the resident not been so vigilant these crooks may have got away with these goods leaving the householder with a lot of explaining to do when they were invoiced for the delivery. We have in the last couple of weeks had two further incidents in Chelworth and Minety but this time the package contained a laptop. Should an incident like this occur to you, please inform Police immediately and do not hand over the goods to anyone
Concert in the Church
A final reminder that a Bach Concert will be held in Oaksey Church on Friday, 18th May at 7.30pm. The cost will be £15 per head which includes a programme and a glass of wine. The players are ‘Music for a while’. The music they will be playing will be by Bach and his circle. Tickets are available from Nick Mangnall (577982) and at the Village Shop.
Correction to Church Times in Parish News
Please note that the church times/dates published in the Parish News were incorrect. I do appologise and the correct information can be found on the Oaksey Diary page <click here>
