Welcome... Oaksey is a friendly village with a great community spirit which everyone is anxious to preserve in the future. We are a fortunate village with our own church, shop/post office, pub, village hall and a thriving Primary school. We have playing fields in the centre of the village and a 9-hole golf course and leisure park at the edge. Country walks and footpaths give ample opportunity for relaxation whilst, a few miles distant, is the Cotswold Water Park, the centre for many types of aquatic activity, wild life conservation and fishing. there are also various social , leisure and fund raising activities in the village providing opportunities for residents to meet and enjoy each others company. Parish Council Open Meeting - July 6th from 6.30pm Village Hall
WE ARE VERY MUCH HOPING THAT YOU WILL JOIN MANY OTHERS AT OUR OPEN MEETING ON JULY 6TH!
Oaksey School
We are delighted that following a submission of a portfolio and an inspection day in May we have been awarded The Challenge Award by the National Association for Able Children in Education for the provision for excellence in whole school provision for more able children. We were the 145th school nationally to achieve this and more importantly the first school in Wiltshire. Mrs Tamlyn has led this work with all the children and staff in the school which focuses on providing challenge for all children in their learning and developing the best way for and individual to learn. There will be an award ceremony later in July where will be celebrating our achievement.
Police News
We are receiving lots of reports of families and youths strolling off the Thames path in Ashton Keynes and swimming in the gravel pit lakes on Moreton Cullimores land. Please can people stick to the footpath and PLEASE refrain from using the new formed lakes as a place to swim. Although these look like a safe place to swim and play, THEY ARE NOT! These new formed lakes are much deeper than normal lakes and contain cold spots after just a couple of meters which can cause the body to go into shock and cause the swimmer to panic. Also surrounding the lake is silt which acts like quick sand. You are putting yours and your friends and families lives at risk by going off the footpath. This is still a working gravel pit as you all know and is being patrolled 24/7 by Mr Cullimore, his staff and Police. Anyone seen off the footpath or swimming in the lakes will be reported to the Police and Mr Cullimore may take civil action in regards to trespass. Any youths seen to be drinking under age will have alcohol taken from them and be taken home or a letter sent home to advice their parents/guardians. A 15 year old male tragically died on 3rd June whilst swimming in a disused quarry near Ashover, Derbyshire. This can only highlight the dangers that quarries pose.
UGANDA link
For several years the North Wilts Deanery has been linked with the Diocese of Kigezi in Uganda. Just recently we had a visit from Canon Stanley Byomugabi from Kigezi, and now that he has returned to Uganda we would like to do something to show our friendship through the Link. In Uganda they don't turn on taps like we do, but women have to spend hours each day fetching water from often very dirty and unhealthy sources. The Diocese of Kigezi has a Water & Sanitation Project organised through Tearfund which helps people to build rainwater tanks so that they have easily accessible clean water. We are Keen to raise funds for this project and are having a cake stall in Malmesbury Buttermarket on Friday, 24th July, and would be very grateful for any contributions of home-made cakes or preserves, which can be delivered to Jane Gibbs at The Willow Tree or Helen Carter at Manor Farm, Crudwell
