Welcome... Oaksey is a friendly village with a great community spirit which everyone is anxious to preserve in the future. We are a fortunate village with our own church, shop/post office, pub, village hall and a thriving Primary school. We have playing fields in the centre of the village and a 9-hole golf course and leisure park at the edge. Country walks and footpaths give ample opportunity for relaxation whilst, a few miles distant, is the Cotswold Water Park, the centre for many types of aquatic activity, wild life conservation and fishing. there are also various social , leisure and fund raising activities in the village providing opportunities for residents to meet and enjoy each others company. The weather was kind to us and everyone seems to have had a good time, both at the afternoon fete with its stalls, children’s entertainments and cream teas, and in the evening with the barbecue, bar and live band. Of course these things did not happen by chance – a lot of people put in a lot of work planning and manning the various attractions. Our thanks go to all of them.
Touch of French in Oaksey
Rural Arts, Wiltshire are delighted to present La French Touch in Oaksey Village Hall on Friday 7 November at 7.30pm. An evening with ‘one of the most exciting contemporary French singers of her generation…’ Isabelle Georges and pianist Frederik Steenbrink star in this engaging and emotional new musical cabaret show full of surprises, featuring an international repertoire of French songs, American musicals, tango and jazz.
Jive Classses
The start of the new term for jive classes has been postponed until 5th October - because so many people had escaped on holiday in September that we thought it best to delay. Apologies if anyone was not aware. I look forward to seeing you all at the village hall on Sunday 5th October at 5pm.
Traffic in the village
Speeding – Wilts CC will redo the white lines in the village soon. The chicanes will have white lines added (to give the impression of narrowing) and 30 mph roundels will be added to the surface at the village limits. The ‘Area Board’ is addressing speeding everywhere (everyone has the problem) and we will have our chance to ‘monitor’ traffic speed with their new speed guns – can’t wait! We’ll get help with training, safety etc
Best Kept Village - Winner
Lastly CONGRATULATIONS – Oaksey WON the ‘Medium sized village’ category in the District as Best Kept Village this year and was second in the category for the whole Wiltshire County. Nice place to live!
